I hope you all enjoyed my last blogpost featuring my big list of drugstore makeup products that left me disappointed! Since it's a new year, I love to start it out by sharing positive things! I'm a huge believer in the theory that how you start the new year determines how your year will flow. With that in mind, I'm excited to share with you some of my absolute favourite makeup products that I picked up over the past year!

I'm going to start out with my high end holy grail items. Now, I definitely want to say that you do not have to buy these products to have a flawless face or to even achieve the fresh faced, no-makeup makeup look that this combo provides. I honestly believe that you can create the look for less money, but these just happen to be my favourites.

For several years I have been a huge Laura Mercier makeup fan! The finish of her products is absolutely stunning and are must have items for any girl that suffers from dry skin. My only issue in the past with Laura Mercier is her foundations. There never seems to be a colour that matches my skin tone unless I mix foundations and come on.... who has time for that? However, I am a firm lover of Laura Mercier primers. In my opinion, for us dry and sensitive skin suffers, there is no product out that can compare in terms of moisturization and gentleness! I have repurchased this primer several times as well as the Radiance Primer and have never looked back! Here's a tip, if you want to save a bit of cash on a Sephora haul, purchase this primer in a mini or travel size. They generally run about $15 to $20. Plus, a little goes a LONG way so you can get away with the smaller tube!

As for foundation, I've fallen head over heels in love with the Chanel Vitalumier Aqua. With being pregnant for the majority of 2015 and then dealing with horrid skin issues after Ben was born, I needed a foundation formula that was lightweight, lasted a long time, was quick to apply, didn't emphasis said horrid skin, and didn't break me out in hives. Quite an extensive wish list for one product to meet, but Chanel really did it for me. I adore the formulation of this foundation. It is water based so it literally wears like second skin. Honestly, it's so light you don't even feel it and as it is water based, it applies best sans brush so just a few shakes a little squeeze on the back of the hand, a few dabs and rubs with fingertips and BAM!! DONE! Not only does it meet my first two criteria, but it also gives the most beautiful finish to the skin. I wouldn't say that it's a dewy finish as you would get with other water based formulas. It's more of a demi matte/ satin finish so it covers skin issues pretty well without being cakey. Another issue I always have to worry about with makeup is allergic reactions. I was terrified when I first purchased it as Chanel products do contain fragrance so I was really nervous about having a reaction to it as I have had to others in the past. To my delight, there was not a single hive in sight and my face smelled divine! At $50 it's a bit on the pricey side, but you really only need a few drops to get your whole face so this bottle definitely lasts!

A total winner for mascara for me this year was Chanel's Le Volume de Chanel. Seriously, nothing compares, not even my MUCH loved Tarte Lights, Camera, Flashes or my Smashbox Full Exposure. I ended up getting a sample of this mascara when I purchased another Chanel favourite- Jouse Contrast blush in Fandango. After one use, light poured from the heavens and a choir of angels started singling Hallelujah in my bathroom. YES. It's that good! This mascara offers volume, definition, length, and inky black goodness all in one super quick swipe of the brush. The formulation is also a dream. It's got the perfect blend of not too liquidy and not too dry so it goes on fast and dries in seconds- a must for a new mom! Another plus is that you don't need two {or three} coats to get the look you are going for. I highly recommend you pick this up the next time you stop in at the Chanel counter or at the very least beg for a sample!

My top pick for the year though would have to be my Hourglass Ambient Lighting Palette. This product is honestly exquisite light in powder form. I wear this powder almost every single day, except when I travel due to the fragility of the powder. It can be worn on top of your foundation and concealer for a beautiful, sophisticated, and put together look, or, it can be worn alone using Dim Light to blur all over, Incandescent Light {a palette exclusive} to highlight under the eyes and top of the cheeks, and finally Radiant Light to give you a bit of subtle sun kissed warmth. I definitely would not say that the palette is a great value but it is stunning and absolutely worth it just to get Incandescent Light.

So there you have it, my little beauty luxuries that I just can't live without. These items I will repurchase again {and again, and again} until they are no longer sold. If you are looking for a pick me up after a rough week or just a little something to splash out on, you definitely can not go wrong with any of these products!

As always, thank you for reading and I wish you all a wonderful and luck filled new year!
